10k's, close shaves, and album covers

First up 10k’s:

Not so much plural runs, but definitely plural runners. Veronica and I completed our first official 10k on Saturday morning. We joined in with many others to help support those with Parkinson’s disease and finished a 10k.  Although it was no staggering time, we did not stop running once. No walking, even on the fairly steep hill or the last slow grade from 123rd and Metcalf to 119th and Metcalf.  Our overall time was somewhere in the ballpark of 1hour and 28minutes. As my wife so eloquently put it before we started the race, as we watched all the serious runners warming up, “…we’re completers, not competers…” and true to that statement we completed our 6.4 mile run.  I am very proud of Veronica as she’s come a long way with the mental challenge that running more than 2 miles brings about.

Next up, Close Shaves:

After we finished the run, Veronica and I headed back to the house to clean up and relax for a couple of hours until it was time to meet with Lindsey and Logan to head to CoMO to go watch the Tigers play some football.  This was the first home game of the season and the first game of our season ticket package.  Lindsey, Logan, Emily, Tyler, Veronica and I all have season tickets to the MU home games and boy is it going to be a fun season.  The 2 hour drive to Columbia is quite easy and with 4 people in the car it goes by quite quickly.  As we approached Columbia we started to get back in to friendly territory. We saw more and more Tiger Tails and realized what we were missing, our own Tiger Tail!  Needless to say during our stay in Columbia we managed to pick up a Tiger Tail to swap on to whichever car we may be driving at that time.

On to the game.  It was a little scary. 3 quarters were spent trailing by at one point 17 points. This was Bowling Green State University who were handily beating last years Big 12 North champs.  Finally in the middle of the 3rd quarter Gabbert and Co. got the offense moving and clawed their way back to a 27-20 victory.  A big round of applause goes out to Sean Weatherspoon and the defense as they kept the game close enough for the offense to reel the victory in.

All in all the weekend was very great and I look forward to spending time with my wife, good friends and some good football fans.

Album covers:

Over the past 2 weeks I purchased 2 new albums.  The first one was Saosin’s new album entitled “In Search of Solid Ground”.  This is the follow-up album to the self-titled debut “Saosin”.  While I.S.O.S.G is a decent album, it in no way holds it’s weight to the previous album.  The next album I purchased just today and it was Thrice’s new album “Beggars”. In a nutshell this is a FANTASTIC album.  While a departure from their experimental album collection “The Alchemy Index” it goes back to a more jam oriented rock and roll sound.  I recommend this album to anyone wanting to listen to a great album.

Now time to watch the season finale of True Blood with my beautiful wife. Until next time.
