Dear Enzo…

Can we talk? I have a few things I would like to ask you about.

We will start off with an easy one: why do you want to bite my sweatpants? Although only $5 men’s Target sweatpants that I cut the ankle elastic out of, they are my favorite and I don’t want holes in them. Baggy with a little paint is fine, but holes cross the line.

How come you don’t enjoy taking a bath? This one boggles my mind. It’s warm. You essentially get a massage because you don’t have opposible thumbs to be able to do it yourself. And you leave feeling clean. I don’t get it.

Also what is so appealing about the right side of your kennel that has made you decide to start chewing on it…today? It hasn’t changed since yesterday. You have a chew stick that you seemed to like.

How do you get the hiccups? Do you notice you have the hiccups? Do you care that you have the hiccups? Do you even know what they hiccups are? Okay, I will stop.

Do you dream? Sometimes you make noises when you are in your kennel. Sounds like you just got getting attacked or just got a treat – not sure.

Lastly but most important, why did you pee in your kennel yesterday morning? I took you for a walk. I gave you a treat. You were quiet when I left. Why so tricky?

Love,

Your (Human) Mom

Enzo: Day 5 Sunshine!

Today is even better than yesterday. Our little pup is learning, adjusting, and growing up quite quickly. Last night Veronica and I challenged him to go 4 hours between potty breaks to allow us to get a little more sleep. It basically worked. He managed to make it from 10pm – 1:45am. Our goal was 2am.  I took him out. He then managed to make it from 1:50am-5:45am! Yahoo! He’s getting it. And we’re getting more sleep.

He’s also beginning to sleep longer during the day. That’s a good thing too because it will allow me to get to work longer hours during the day instead of just at night.

The best part is he’s starting to go farther on walks. At first it was just around the house. Then up the cul-de-sac and back. Then after a bit it was 2-3 times up the cul-de-sac and back. Now we can get a bout 2 blocks from the house and back and he seems to do good. Sometimes it takes a lot of stop and go coaxing to get him moving, but after that he generally walks quite nicely. Right by my side or slightly behind me. He gets distracted by passing cars but I don’t let him dwell in his anxiety so he just goes back to normal right afterward.

We have currently had lunch and had a romp out in the back yard. The sun is shining and the snow is melting so it made for a good bit of fun for Enzo. Now he’s cashed out at the back door in the sun beam! He’s a good one and he’s going to get better!

Later today is our first car ride and trip to the vet. I shall report on how that went!

Whew! What a couple of weeks…

The title says it all. It has been quite busy around here the past two weeks. Starting with a wonderful Thanksgiving, the first at our new house as well as a first as a married couple, followed by a weekend having Stephanie and Bettie visiting us.

Thanksgiving:  Everything went smoothly and everything tasted WONDERFUL.

After a few hours of the turkey in the oven our guests (Ann, Deb, and Elaina) arrived.  We all chatted for a bit and finished making the rest of the meal.  Basically Veronica made everything and I was there as her sous chef.  She made the green bean casserole, homemade stuffing, homemade gravy, and mashed potatoes.  Ann made some rolls for us to enjoy and finally my mom made homemade cranberry sauce. Yummy! After we enjoyed our wonderful meal it was time for dessert. Did I mention Veronica made that too? Yeah a homemade carrot cake and homemade pumpkin pie. Not sure if you’re realizing the theme here but basically everything is homemade. It was all delicious!

Fast forward another week.

Stephanie and Bettie came to stay with us this weekend as Bettie had a swim meet. She swam like a shark for sure and achieved some great times for all of her events.  As a reward for Bettie swimming so well Veronica, Bettie and I all went ice skating.  I haven’t been ice skating in probably 7 or so years. Bettie had never been and Veronica hadn’t been for quite some time. It was a blast!

On top of all of these activities, Veronica and I were able to get nearly ALL of our Christmas shopping done this weekend which means we only have to find a few more things and we’re all set.

Back to work tomorrow.

Until next time.

The Turner’s First Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Veronica and I have a lot to be thankful for and as this is our first Thanksgiving as Mr. and Mrs. Turner we are cooking a “traditional” Thanksgiving meal complete with turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, rolls, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. For dessert we have carrot cake and pumpkin pie.

WHOA! You may be thinking, that’s a TON of food for two people. Fear not as Veronica’s mom and sister are coming to dinner as well as my mom. It will be the first thanksgiving in our new house as well.

So far this morning we have cleaned the turkey and put that big bird in the oven. Now we will slowly prepare all the other items and wait for our families to arrive. A side note on the turkey; we bought a near 16lb turkey to feed 5 people. Yeah, that’s huge for 5 people. Maybe not if that’s all we were eating but that’s not all we’re eating so there will definitely be some holiday leftovers!

That is all for now. We’ll have some pictures this evening of our festivities.

Long week…

Today is the beginning of the end of a fairly long week. Work has increasingly taken up more time and as more projects pile up, I’m forced to work longer hours to meet the deadlines. The only real adversity is that the people who are assigned to assist me do not seem to be able to do the work in a timely fashion. This leaves me with the task of picking up the slack.  It isn’t much of a problem until they begin to tell you something may only take 15 minutes and in turn it takes 5 hours.  That type of time differential is 1) ridiculous and 2) unacceptable. Most people know very well how long something may take to complete. I don’t mean down to the letter, but within a 30 minute window is acceptable. Having something take 20 times longer than you say it will just kills scheduling ability and forces others to have to work even harder. Such is the way it goes in the corporate environment.

In other news, Veronica and I managed to completely change one of the rooms in our house without spending a dime.  We have always envisioned our front room as an office. Once we moved in however, it became a space that had a desk and also contained “things in transition” be it junk we were getting rid of or things that were going to be placed in different areas of the house, it just began to get cluttered. Monday night came along and we decided to re-arrange the space and bring up an end table from the basement. With a little time and some furniture rotating we were able to achieve a much more homey space as well as a useful office area. The coolest part in our eyes is what we turned our glass wedding card holder into. For our wedding we had an elongated 4″ tall glass vase.  Veronica decided a few weeks ago to put some coffee beans in it. From that point it managed to sit on the kitchen island until it was in the way, then it moved to the bookcase, then back to the island.  Finally, after we had re-arranged the office, she set it on the desk and put some pens in it. Now it’s our modern pencil holder! We think it looks great!

desktoporganizer Fancy I know! We like it anyway.

As I write this I am currently waiting for the Orkin man to show up so I may get to work and finish my 2 projects that are breathing down the back of my throat.
