Cold, cold, cold

Boy has winter reared it’s ugly head! The past week has been absolutely frigid in thisĀ parallelogramĀ of a state called Kansas. We got snow a couple days ago and although it was nothing to “write home about” (ironically I write that as I’m posting it on a blog that essentially acts as modern day letters to our friends and family), it sure brought winter in full swing. I noticed a couple of things that the weather brought about.

1) Apparently Johnson County has the 2nd largest salt mine in the United States* as I have more salt on my car after 1 day of salting the roads than I would have accumulated an entire season living in Michigan. *Note: I just falsified this claim for the sake of the joke/pun or failed attempt at either of those.

2) People REALLY freak out about the possibility of snow! You would think that we were about to get 24″ of snow in the matter of 2 hours the way it seemed everybody was talking about the weather. Co-workers were getting ready to leave early and head home. (I guess I’m slightly biased/unaffected by inclement weather as I enjoy driving in it and the like)

On top of the snow the temperatures around here apparently need the “Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” calling device as they dropped off from about 50 degrees to a steady 15 for the past few days. The nights have been even colder dropping into the single digits. Don’t even get me started about the windchills!

The reason I seem so ridiculous over this is not because I’ve never seen it before, but we’re in Kansas for goodness sake! It’s not supposed to be like Michigan, or worse, Canada!

Other than that things have been progressing along nicely for the holiday season. All our Christmas shopping is complete and Veronica and I have decided in lieu of individual gifts for each other this Christmas that we will go to the KC Ballet’s production of Todd Bolender’s “The Nutcracker”. I’m very excited to go to a ballet with my lovely wife and enjoy the art of dance!

Until next time!
